WELCOME

Welcome to the Gruver High School library! I look forward to seeing each and every one of you this year. Should you have any recommendations to add to our collection, feel free to bring them to me.

We have added almost 200 new titles to our collection--something for every reader--even the most relunctant one! Check out these titles:

Heart of a Soldier by James B. Stewart. This is the true account of Rick Rescorla, a Vietman vet who risks his own life saving others from the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,"Heart of a Soldier peels back many layers of human phenomena we struggle to understand: the qualities of leadership, the depths of loyalty, the dilemmas of love." From The Baltimore Sun, "humming with tension, foreign adventure, and the clash of arms, Heart of a Soldier has all the ingredients of an Indiana Jones movie."

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy. "Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances."—says Entertainment Weekly. An Amazon Best Teen Book of the Month, May 2013 Spotlight Pick: "Forget your E.T. version of sweet, harmless aliens--in The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey imagines a silent invasion that takes extraterrestrial intelligence to a whole new level. Alternating points of view peel back each new layer of the novel while death, separation, and love, push his diverse characters to survive in a terrifying new world."

Since You Asked by Maurene Goo. This is the story of Holly Kim, a girl trying to survive high school, her parents, and life in general without losing her individuality, sarcasm, and wit. "A drily funny account of a teenager who feels like an outsider in her high school, family, and society in general . . . Goo capably demonstrates the pressures and expectations Holly is under, and that a sense of humor is valuable for dealing with both." —Publishers Weekly "Had me laughing the whole way through . . . Holly is a character [who] will stay in your mind well after you put the book down. And the letters from her secret admirer sprinkled throughout were pure genius!" —Glitter Magazine

Insomnia by J.R. Johansson. Instead of sleeping, Parker Chipp enters the dream of the last person he's had eye contact with. He spends his nights crushed by other people's fear and pain, by their disturbing secrets--and Parker can never have dreams of his own. The severe exhaustion is crippling him. If nothing changes, Parker could soon be facing psychosis and even death (Amazon). "Insomnia is the perfect blend of everything I love in a story. Suspense, twists, characters with many levels that make me wonder just how good or just how bad they really are. I highly recommend this book to everyone and I hope a sequel comes soon!"-- JAMES DASHNER, author of the #1 New York Times Bestselling Maze Runner series. "Cleverly written and dangerously dark, Insomnia will take you to the brink of insanity. A must read for thriller and romance fans alike."-- ELANA JOHNSON, author of Possession.

The Hope of Refuge by Cindy Woodsmall. “Cindy Woodsmall’s The Hope of Refuge takes the reader on an emotional journey into the heart of Amish country and the heart of a very human heroine. A compelling novel of love lost and found with realistic characters from two very different worlds which become, beautifully, one.”Karen Harper, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Down
“A skillfully written story of forgiveness and redemption. Woodsmall’s authentic characters illustrate beautifully how wounded souls can indeed be mended.”
–Susan Meissner, author of The Shape of Mercy and White Picket Fences.
